Education: An Inquiry Into Traditional Teaching Methods
Preface Ever wonder why you go to school? No, no the question is actually have you ever asked yourself: Why can’t school be fun?
My sentiments exactly. We get up before the sun, tired, stressed and angry; to go to an institution where our lives are run by bells and some teachers you’ve had for 6 months still cant spell your name right. I mean your name isn’t even that difficult five maybe six letters; I mean it’s not like your name is Eloisa, or something. Geez. Where were we? Oh yes, you were meandering aimlessly through hallways clogged worse than the arteries of a 45 yr old 2 Big-Macs -a –day kind of guy. You don’t think. That would be dangerous. You’re more interested in surviving this lethal traffic flow, dodge backpack here, elbow there, and don’t forget those corners. Making it through nine periods has you thinking on such a primal level that any information of any real substance, even a molecule of actual intellectual gold fails to fall on your brain and be absorbed. So in effect this system of “betterment” is actually a devastating cycle that does nothing more than increase misery, self and loathing, unhealthy competiveness, and frustration.
Learning should be fun. It should be interesting. It should be…it should be DIFFERENT! No one wants to sit for hours in the same kinds of
personality void rooms. Everything happens in the world so why don’t the students get brought there to learn? Are we being protected? From what? The endless
rules and regulations are strangling whatever shred of intelligent thought or creative sparks exist. There are alternative ideas on teaching and educating out there.
I want to find them, explore them, and learn all about them. I’m going to share with you this journey to see whether or not the quest for knowledge can be made fun,
and if so how. I think it would be refreshing to show the other methods. Knowledge is important so lets not waste it.
My Question: What other systems/methods of Educating are our there? How do they work? And Why do they work?
Here are some videos I found on youtube.com. I will only post a couple because the others involve coarse language that I believe teachers will find inapropriate and offensive. However you are free to view them should you like, taking into consideration my warning. The one I really wanted posted here did not have embedding or did not allow it. So I'm going to post the link. Out of all of the video this one was the most interesting. Check it out please! Cisco's Vision for the School System of the Future
This one's a little bit dry but very informative. Enjoy.
Look presenting new ideas to a board! There may be hope yet!
This one is primarily for teachers but why not share with students right?
